Location of Genheim in Rhineland-Palatinate

Genheim is a district of the municipality Waldalgesheim in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland- Palatinate.

Geography

Genheim is located on the southeastern slope of the Hunsrück between Koblenz and Bad Kreuznach south of Binger forest and west of the Near and about seven kilometers west of Bingen. Genheim lies on the route of Naheweinstraße.

History

From about 750 BC, the region was settled by the Celts. The Celtic burial mounds between Genheim and Schweppenhausen and the car grave of Princess Waldalgesheim prove that there must have been near important Celtic settlements. Where exactly were these settlements and whether the origins of the village establishment ultimately go back to a Celtic settlement, it can not be proven.

Since the time of Christ Roman troops occupied the left bank of the Rhine. For 500 years, the area remained under Roman rule and Roman influence. The Romans brought the road and especially the cultivation of wine from Italy into Germany. Dialect
