Waldalgesheim

Waldalgesheim is a municipality in the district Mainz -Bingen, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the community association Rhein-Nahe, which has its headquarters in the town of Bingen am Rhein.

Geography

Geographical location

The wine Waldalgesheim is at the southeastern edge of the Hunsrück between Koblenz and Bad Kreuznach south of Binger Forest and west of the Near and about 6 km west of Bingen.

Neighboring communities of Waldalgesheim are Weiler bei Bingen, Rümmelsheim and Stromberg (Hunsrück ) and direction Genheim, Waldlaubersheim, Roth and Schweppenhausen.

History

Laboratory studies show Celtic branches of the La Tène period (5th - 1st century BC), in particular the location on the outskirts of Waldalgesheim Celtic princely grave.

The original name of Waldalgesheim was Algesheim. The name researcher Albrecht Greule states that should be distinguished by the addition of the forest in the city name to the name of Algesheim ( Gau- Algesheim ), also in the Mainz -Bingen district. The oldest documented mention of Waldalgesheim for the year 766 (as Alagastesheim in pago Wormatiensi ) and finds himself in the Codex Laureshamensis, one compiled for 1170-1195 cartulary of the monastery Lorsch (see Lorsch codex ). As underlying meaning of the place name are apparently after Greule the male personal names Alagast or Alagwin before, in the sense of "home of Alagast " or the " Home of the Alagwin ".

As early March 1945, American troops found their way into Waldalgesheim, the community for the victors gained a relative importance. Due to the strategic location, it was planned from there to attack the neighboring town Stromberg, ingestion of just had to go ahead of Bad Kreuznach.

On 7 November 1970, until then independent municipality Genheim was incorporated.

The local council in Waldalgesheim consists of 20 council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 a personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Sports

The local sports club SV Alemannia Waldalgesheim was founded in 1910 and consists of the departments football, tennis, basketball, children's gymnastics, aerobics, mother-child gymnastics and jazz dance. Figurehead of the club is the football department, whose first team in the 2007/ 08 season for the first time managed to climb from the fifth division in the Oberliga West.

  • The Federal Highway 61 is reached after about 4 km at the junction Waldlaubersheim. In about the same distance from junction Stromberg is ( also A61 ).
