Selzen

Waders is a municipality in the district Mainz -Bingen, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Nierstein - Oppenheim, has its administrative headquarters in the town of Oppenheim.

Geography

The wine is between Mainz and Worms, Rheinhessen an der Selz. For waders also includes the living space Paulinenhof.

History

The first mention Selzens can be found in the year 782 as " salts " in the Lorsch Codex. Grave finds from the Neolithic Age - 2000 BC - from Roman times - 100 AD - and from the Frankish period of 6/7 Century document a historic site.

From the early Middle Ages to the 16th century belonged to the waders of Worms cathedral chapter. The Domhof was tithe of the cathedral chapter. In the 15th century the Palatinate acquired the " Kapellhube " ( Kapellenhof ) and displaces the Worms cathedral chapter.

The Lords of Bolanden had here in the 12th century a castle. From 1294 the Worms cathedral chapter held the bailiwick. After 1453 had to cede one half of the Electoral Palatinate, who took possession of the stronger partner step by step throughout the local rule. 1797 fell waders to France. 1816 waders was reclassified and then became part of the newly formed province to Rheinhessen, which was assigned to the Grand Duchy of Hesse.

Since 1946, waders belongs to the state of Rhineland -Palatinate. In the course of administrative reform Selzen 1972, the municipality Nierstein - Oppenheim has been assigned.

According to legend, the inhabitants were required in the Middle Ages, to bring the frogs in the pond in Selz or silenced by that beat them with rods in the water. The Gutsherrschaft wanted to sleep undisturbed from croaking. Therefore, the inhabitants are nicknamed Selzer frogs.

Regular events

  • On Ascension Day or Father's Day festival takes place in the cycling routes waders.
