Essenheim

Essenheim is a municipality in the district Mainz -Bingen, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Nieder-Olm.

Geographical location

History

In the 18th century, many Essenheimer emigrated to Pennsylvania and settled there, especially in the area of the Kreutz Creek in what is now York County. The language of the emigrants - the Pennsylvaniadeutsche - has remained there to this day. Even the most famous pennsylvaniadeutsche dialect poet Henry Harbaugh (1817-1867) has family roots in Essenheim.

A city bus and a local bus line, run through Essenheim: Line 75 of the MVG and ORN (Mainz Ingelheim ) and line 650 of the ORN ( Mainz to Sprendlingen ). The two lines complement each from Monday to Saturday in the rush hour to a 30 -minute intervals.
