Gennaro Ursino

Gennaro Ursino (* 1650 in Roio del Sangro (Chieti ); † after 1715 in Naples) was an Italian composer of the Neapolitan school.

Life and work

Gennaro Ursino occurred in 1662 in the Conservatorio di Maria della Pietà dei Turchini, where he Giovanni Salvatore ( 1610-1688 ) taught, among other things. After this training, he was assistant in 1673 by Francesco Provenzale, the successor Salvatores. From 1675, the year in which he was ordained a priest until 1700 he taught as a secondo maestro at the conservatory. After Provenzales resignation he was from 1701 to 1705 primo maestro. In addition, he was Kapellmeister at the Jesuit College, the Basilica della Santissima Annunziata Maggiore and the Chiesa di Santa Maria in Portico. Among his pupils was one of Francesco Mancini.
