Genrikh Graftio

Heinrich or Genrich Osipovič Graftio (born 14 / December 26, 1869 in Daugavpils, † April 30, 1949 in Leningrad ) was a senior engineer in the water power plant construction and professor of electrical engineering.

Graftio acquired a 1892 graduate of the University of New Russian in Odessa and 1896 at the St. Petersburg Institute for Transport and Communications Engineering.

Designed between 1900 and 1917 and he built railways and also planned a tram system for Saint Petersburg.

In addition to the hydropower plants on Vuoksi ( 1905) and on the Volkhov (1910 /11) he planned electrification of the railways of the Crimea and Transcaucasia. After ten years of planning, which was considered in Tsarist be unnecessary or which landowners had opposed Lenin had asked him in January 1910 finally put his plans into action on the Volkhov.

From 1907 he taught in St. Petersburg Electrical Engineering and Professor in 1921.

He was a member of the GOELRO. In St. Petersburg, a street is named after him. Buried he is on the Bolsheohtinskoe Cemetery.
