The Lying gentian ( Gentiana prostrata ) is a plant of the genus Gentiana (Gentiana ) in the family of the Gentian Family ( Gentianaceae ).

Description

The Lying Gentian is an annual plant with plant height 2-5 (rarely to 7) cm. The stems are prostrate or ascending, simple or branched at the base a few times. The rather fleshy leaves are narrowly obovate to oblong, obtuse at the base and provided with a short vagina. The leaf margin is cartilaginous.

The calyx teeth broadly triangular and jaded. The crown is 10 to 20 mm long, closely inversely conical, steel blue and towards the base greenish- white.

Occurrence

The species occurs in the eastern Alps and there is growing on moist, rocky slopes at altitudes 2200-2720 m.
