GeoEye

GeoEye is the name of the world's biggest company for the distribution of satellite photos and the provision of data for geographic information systems. It has its headquarters in Dulles, Virginia, was established in January 2006 following the acquisition of Space Imaging by Orbimage Holdings Inc. With approximately 300 employees after the merger, it achieved sales of more than 200 million U.S. dollars.

GeoEye operates three observation satellite with a spatial resolution of better than 1 m: OrbView -2, OrbView -3 and IKONOS. Another satellite, GeoEye -1 is operational since October 2008.

On 31 January 2013, GeoEye merged with its competitor DigitalGlobe. The launch of the satellite, GeoEye -2, which was scheduled for May 2013 was canceled, the satellite will be stored indefinitely.

The game environment of the video game series Tom Clancy's HAWX is based on GeoEyes technology.
