Dulles (Virginia)

Dulles is an unincorporated community in Loudoun County in the U.S. state of Virginia.

Dulles is located in the southwestern third of the Census-designated places sterling. The use of the name began in the mid-1980s, as the person in charge of Economic Development of Loudoun County, Pam Treadwell, applied the name. The United States Postal Service allowed then the business, and residents of Sterling, to use the name Dulles alternative address. Dulles is called by the post office as an " acceptable " city name for postal code 20166, while the actual name of the town is Sterling.

The Washington Dulles International Airport is (although he uses the name of sterling in his address ) partly in Dulles and partly in Chantilly in Fairfax County. The community has derived its name from the airport, who in turn had received its name from the former U.S. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles ( 1888-1959 ).

In Dulles are the headquarters of Orbital Sciences Corporation, the former headquarters of MCI Worldcom and the former headquarters of America Online ( AOL), which was moved to New York in 2007.
