Sterling is a census -designated place in the suburban area of Washington, DC and is located west of the capital near the Washington Dulles International Airport in Loudoun County, Virginia.

- Broad Run Farms ( zip code 20165 ) is a residential area north of Virginia State Route 7 and Virginia State Route 28, which was incorporated in 1952. The official name is Sterling or Potomac Falls. Broad Run Farms is bordered to the north by the Potomac River and to the west by Broad Run. The community was founded in 1950, as Miskel 's Farm, a venue in the Civil War of the Confederate Capt. John Mosby made known, was purchased and divided by a U.S. Senate lawyer.
- Dulles ( ZIP code 20166 ) is an area directly at the Washington Dulles International Airport, from which it got its name.
- Potomac Falls ( zip code 20165 ) - built in the early 1990s. The northernmost part of Sterlings, which officially allowed to call both Sterling and Potomac Falls itself. The community consists of Lowes Iceland, Cascades, Countryside and River Crest and is located on the banks of the Potomac River.
