The place is indeed predominantly a residential area for in Washington, DC working commuters, but offers with the Great Falls Park and located therein Great Falls of the Potomac River, a major landmark. History

Previously, the settlement was called Forestville, but this name was not official, because in the unincorporated settlement Forestville was a post office in Shenandoah County.
