Georg Brandt

Georg Brandt ( born June 26, 1694 Skinnskatteberg, † April 29, 1768 in Stockholm) was a Swedish chemist who discovered the chemical element Cobalt in Bismuterzen and named.

Georg Brandt was appointed in 1727 as head of the chemical laboratory of Mountain College in Stockholm, 1730, he became director of the Royal Mint. In the same year he discovered and named the element cobalt. His findings on the composition of arsenic compounds, he published 1733. Moreover, he conducted research on antimony, bismuth, mercury and zinc. He developed methods for the production of hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and sulfuric acid, which he published in 1741 and 1743. He was one of the first chemists who faced alchemy completely adverse, he uncovered fraudulent methods of gold production.
