Georg Feigl

Georg Feigl ( born October 13, 1890 in Hamburg, † April 20, 1945 in exchange castle ) was a German mathematician.

Life

Georg Feigl studied mathematics from 1909 at the University of Jena. In 1918 he earned his doctorate under Paul Koebe. From 1928 he was editor of the yearbook on the progress of mathematics. In 1935 he was appointed a full professor at the University of Breslau.

His main areas of work relating to the foundations of geometry and topology.

He was one of the initiators of the Mathematical dictionary. Because of the impending siege by the Red Army, he was forced to leave Wroclaw in January 1945 with his family and other members of the Mathematical Institute. His wife Mary was distantly related to the lord of the castle in exchange castle and was able to lock in a recording prepare. Feigl met with other members of the Institute, in January. He brought the previously developed material and let it write off of the students in the castle for further refinement. There was neither write nor calculators and no books and textbooks. Johann Radon (1887-1956) and Feigl were willing and able to continue one hour a day which started in Wroclaw lectures alternating castle without documents. Feigl had a severe stomach ailment and died after a few months without any medication in exchange castle. The dictionary was until 1961 under Hermann Ludwig Schmid ( 1908-1956 ) and Joseph Naas ( 1906-1993 ) appear.
