Georg Friedrich Benecke

Georg Friedrich Benecke ( born June 10, 1762 Mönchsroth, Principality Öttingen; † August 21, 1844 in Göttingen ) was a German philologist, who dealt with the German literature of the Middle Ages.

Benecke moved into 1780, the University of Göttingen, where in 1814 a full professor, assistant librarian in 1815 and died as a chief librarian there on August 21, 1844 His studies ranged preferably on old German and English literature. ; the former he has raised with first a subject of academic lectures. In his writings belonging here he shows himself as an astute commentator Middle High German poet, particularly in lexical terms. Since 1828 he edited with armies, the Göttingen scholars ads.
