Georg Petel

Georg Petel (* 1601 or 1602 Weilheim in Oberbayern, † 1634 in Augsburg) was a sculptor, repairer and ivory carvers.

Petel received in 1625 the citizens and master right in the city of Augsburg. He made ​​several trips, including to Antwerp in 1620, to Paris in 1621 and Rome ( 1622-1624 ). He also maintained friendly relations with Rubens and Van Dyck, who influenced him artistically.

Petel was one of the greatest sculptors of the early Baroque. His works can be seen among others in Augsburg, Maximilian Museum, the Bavarian National Museum and the Cathedral " Our Lady ".
