Georg Rudolf Boehmer

Georg Rudolf Böhmer ( born October 1, 1723 in Legnica, † April 4, 1803 in Wittenberg) was a German physician and botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Boehm. ".

Life

Bohemian was born on October 1, 1723 in Legnica, the son of a pharmacist. He matriculated in 1742 at the University of Leipzig, where he devoted himself as a botanist of plant anatomy under Professor Ludwig. On September 10, 1746 he obtained the degree of bachelor of Medicine and on March 20, 1750 to a medical licentiate. After the death of his father Abraham, Bohemian was appointed on August 2, 1752 the University of Wittenberg as professor.

He wrote on the flora of Leipzig, on the cellular tissue of the plants on the quality of seeds over nectarines and wrote an over faces on the fauna, with the work " Bibliotheca historia naturalis scriptorum " in five parts which appeared from 1785 to 1789. A plant genus of the family Urticaceae, the Boehmeria was first described by him and named after him. It involves fiber plants, which are now processed industrially. Other minor treatises such as academic programs, newspaper articles and dissertations on anatomy, physiology, as well as pharmaceutical botany, expand his 130 publications comprehensive body of work.

As a professor in Wittenberg, he managed the Department of Botany and Anatomy, and finally in 1782 for the therapy.
