George Copway

George Copway ( Kah - ge -ga- gah - bowh, "He who is certain ", * 1818, † 1869) was an Indian- Canadian writer of the tribe of the Anishinabe. Middle of the 19th century, he toured Europe. After Copway had spoken as the official representative of the Christianized Native Americans on the international peace congress in Frankfurt aM, 1850 he travel to Dusseldorf to be here to meet with Ferdinand Freiligrath and to take over the sponsorship for his son Otto. On this occasion, the German - American painter Emanuel Leutze portrayed him in his idealized image The Last of the Mohicans.
