George Dowty

George Dowty ( born March 27, 1901 in Pershore, † December 2, 1975 ) was a British industrialist and inventor.

Early on Dowty met a blow when he lost an eye at age 12. He went to the Royal Grammar School Worcester, which he left in 1916 for an apprenticeship at a factory in Worcester to begin. He performed well in spite of his handicap and went for the company that trained him as a designer to Cheltenham. He then worked for Gloster and developed the Gloster Gladiator. In 1935 he started his own business with a company for the production of aviation accessories. He invented ( among many other things ) the strut with coil spring Internal all around. The first order of such shocks has been issued by Kawasaki. 1939 called the company Dowty Aviation and delivered next to the chassis hydraulic system for most British aircraft. The product range also included propeller. In the late 1930s, Dowty had contact with George Messier, who searched the UK to license partners. Messier - Bugatti - Dowty is now a part of the company Safran.

1941 tried Dowty in the U.S. unsuccessfully, to obtain a patent for a hydraulic suspension, which was based on the compressibility of liquids.

Dowty 1955 was knighted. In 1961 he was president of the Worcester Old Elizabethans ' Association and was President of the Royal Aeronautical Society

Dowty was married to Marguerite Lockie. He had two children, Virginia and George.
