George Duncan Beechey

George Duncan Beechey ( born October 20, 1797 in London, England; † October 17, 1852 in Lucknow, Avadh, India (dates also: * 1798, † December 6, 1852 ) ) was a British portrait painter of the 19th century.

Life

Beechey was the third of 18 children of the English portrait painter and later Sir William Beechey and his wife Phyllis Jessop. King George III. of Britain was his godfather. He was the captain of the British Navy Frederick William Beechey, the Admirals and painter Richard Brydges Beechey and portrait painter Henry William Beechey brother.

The fact that Beechys father was the portrait painter of the king, caused a large clientele within the royal family and well-known personalities, such as when Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex. From 1817 to 1834 he exhibited several times at the Royal Academy of Arts.

In the years 1821-1822 Beechey made ​​a sign and Malreise to Egypt in the 1830s, he traveled to India. He was the court painter of the last Nawabs of Avadh.
