William Beechey

Sir Henry William Beechey RA ( born December 12, 1753 Burford, Oxfordshire, England; † January 28, 1839 in London) was a British portrait painter.

Life

Henry William Beechey was the son of William Beechey (* 1732) and Hannah Read. Originally intended for a legal education, it 's love brought to painting to enroll 1772 in the four years previously founded Royal Academy of Arts in London. He was a pupil of the painter Johann Zoffany, whose influence is evident in his early works. 1776 presented Beechey from his first works and some of his smaller portraits gained him great reputation. Various orders, to make portraits of the English aristocracy, followed. In 1782 he moved to Norwich, where he had received several orders, but in 1787 he returned to London. In 1789 he exhibited a portrait of John Douglas, Bishop of Carlisle, her, which is to be regarded as one of the gems of its activities. In 1793 he became an associate member of the Royal Academy of Arts ( ARA) and the same year he was appointed portrait painter to the Queen Charlotte. He painted portraits of members of the royal family, and many famous people in the fashion of their time.
