Sir Granville George Greenwood ( born January 3, 1850October 27, 1928 ) was an English parliamentarian, Shakespeare scholar and lawyer.

Life

Greenwood, was born as the second son of John Greenwood. He studied at Eton College, was selected for a " Newcastle Scholarship" and matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge. He graduated in 1873 with honors the classical Tripos training in Cambridge. After he was appointed in 1878 to the Middle Temple lawyer, he joined the court of the Western Circuit. He married in 1878 Laura, daughter of Dr. Cumberbatch. The marriage produced a son and three daughters were born.

He applied 1876 to the constituency of Peterborough and 1900 by Central Hull. In 1906 he won Peterborough for the Liberal Party, and held this office until December 1915 when he had to retire because of joint disease. In 1916 he was knighted.

Services

Greenwood was an ardent animal rights, belonged to the Council of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ( Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ), and was president of many societies. He was already at a time advocate for the independence of India, as in England hardly anyone raised his voice for it.

In addition, Greenwood is one of the first and most important advocate of the Shakespeare authorship debate and has published numerous books and articles on this topic. He was often a correspondent for the Times, both in the Shakespearean authorship as well as what animal welfare is concerned.

Works

Greenwood wrote 1908-1924 on the subject of Shakespeare's authorship of twelve books and numerous articles.

A prolific and entertaining writer, he became involved in public debates, forums, newspapers and literary journals, inter alia, with the then leading Shakespeare biographer Sidney Lee

Although Greenwood was considered the most important so-called "anti- Stratfordianer " in the early 20th century, he has always refused to favor a particular alternative candidate. He preferred to be counted among the agnostics about the identity of Shakespeare, but was always offensive in the view that the traditional view of " Stratfordianer " not to talk about the identity of William Shakespeare or to defend is. He founded the company in 1922 along with Looney The Shakespeare Fellowship, which had made it to task to promote public discussion and scientific processing of the authorship question of Shakespeare.
