George H. Lindsay

George Henry Lindsay ( born January 7, 1837 in New York City; † May 25, 1916 in Brooklyn, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1901 and 1913 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

George Henry Lindsay was born in City about nine years before the outbreak of the Mexican - American War in New York. His family moved in 1843 to the then still independent city of Brooklyn, where he attended public schools. He was then in the real estate and investment business operates. Between 1882 and 1886 he sat in the New York State Assembly. He then worked 1886-1892 as Coroner in Kings County. In 1898 he was appointed Assistant Tax Commissioner. He participated in various national and state convention. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1900 he was in the second electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John J. Fitzgerald on March 4, 1901. He was re-elected five times in a row. Since he gave up for reelection in 1912, he retired after March 3, 1913 from the Congress.

After he retired from the political scene and lived until his death on May 25, 1916 in Brooklyn. His body was interred in the Evergreen Cemetery. Congressman George W. Lindsay was his son and Congressman Stephen A. Rudd his son.
