Reception

In Harvey's early works rather dominate themes of the genre painting; Images that show an observation of human nature, pleasing composition and a warm color. Only in his late works, Harvey turned more to the mannerism. In the last ten years of his life he increasingly devoted himself to landscape painting and found his themes mostly on the scenic west coast of Scotland. It is worth noting in Harvey's artistic creation also his great cycle from the 17th century history of his homeland; including, inter alia, the painting " Sermon of the Covenanters ", which was created in 1830.
