George Jessel (Jurist)

Sir George Jessel ( born February 13, 1824 in London, † March 21, 1883 ) was an English jurist. Jessel was Reich archivist, judge, Solicitor General ( Solicitor General ) 1871-1873 and Master of the Rolls, the third highest judicial office, 1873-1883.

Life

George Jessel was the son of Zadok Aaron Jessel. He attended a Jewish school in Kew, near London. As a Jew, he could not study at Oxford or Cambridge, which allowed only members of the Church of England. For this reason, he studied from 1842 in Lincoln 's Inn.

In 1856 he married Amelia Moses, with whom he had three daughters and two sons.

1868 Jessel was a member of the House of Commons. In 1880 he was elected to the Royal Society.
