George Joseph Lucas

George Joseph Lucas ( born June 12, 1949 in Saint Louis) is the Archbishop of Omaha.

Life

The Archbishop of Saint Louis, John Joseph Cardinal Carberry, ordained him a priest on May 24, 1975.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 19 October 1999 as Bishop of Springfield in Illinois. The Archbishop of Chicago, Francis Eugene Cardinal George, OMI, gave him on 14 December of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Gabriel Montalvo Higuera were co-consecrators, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States of America, and Daniel Leo Ryan, retired bishop of Springfield in Illinois. As a motto he chose Grace and Mercy.

On 3 June 2009 he was appointed Archbishop of Omaha and inserted into the office on July 22 of the same year.
