George Montgomerie, 15th Earl of Eglinton

Arnulph George Montgomerie, 15th Earl of Eglinton, 3rd Earl of Winton ( born February 23, 1848August 10, 1919 in Ayrshire, Scotland) was a Scottish nobleman and tennis player.

Life

Montgomerie came in 1848 as a son of Archibald Montgomerie, 13th Earl of Eglinton, and his wife Theresa Newcomen to the world. His brother was Montolieu Seton Montgomerie. He married Janet Lucretia Cuninghame 1873. Montgomerie served as a lieutenant in the Grenadier Guards. Later he held the post of Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire held.

Between 1878 and 1887 he regularly took part in the Wimbledon Championships. His best result he achieved there in 1880, when he was able to advance to the semifinals and finally Otway Edward Woodhouse was defeated in five sets.

He died in 1919 at the age of 71 years.
