George Nevill, 5th Baron Bergavenny

George Nevill ( e), 5th Baron Bergavenny KG, PC ( born October 18, 1469 Abergavenny, Wales, † June 13, 1535 in Birling, Kent ) was an English nobleman, military commander and politician.

Life

Neville was the eldest son of George Neville, 4th Baron Bergavenny ( 1440-1492 ) and his wife Lady Margaret ( 1453-1485 ), daughter of Sir Hugh fens and eldest brother of Edward Neville, the childhood friend of the future King Henry VIII.

Neville was educated at Balliol College, Oxford, and came in 1483 as secretary to the royal court to London. Under King Henry VII Tudor, he fought on June 17, 1497 at the Battle of Deptford Bridge against the Cornish rebels. As Constable of Dover Castle, he was the defenses enhanced further by attaching the castle and had to create a moat. 1513 Neville was a Knight of the Order of the Garter ( Knight of the Order of the Garter ) appointed and three years later he was appointed to the Privy Council.

1521 Neville was indicted at the instigation of Cardinal Wolsey of treason.
