George O. Rathbun

George Oscar Rathbun ( born October 16, 1802 in Scipioville in Auburn, New York, † January 5, 1870 in Auburn, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1843 and 1847 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

George Oscar Rathbun attended schools in Auburn and Hamilton College. He studied law. After receiving his license to practice law, he began to practice in Auburn. He sat in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1842 Rathbun was in the 25th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Maynard on March 4, 1843. He was re-elected once and then retired after March 3, 1847 the Congress of. During his time Congress he had presided over the Committee on Revolutionary Pensions ( 48th Congress ) and the Committee on the Judiciary ( 49th Congress ). After his conference time he went back to his work as a lawyer after. He died about five years after the end of the civil war in Auburn and was then buried in Fort Hill Cemetery.
