George Preca

George Preca ( Maltese: Ġorġ Preca ) ( born February 12, 1880 in Valletta, † July 26, 1962 in Santa Venera ) was a Maltese priest and founder of the order. He is regarded as the second Apostle of Malta.

Life

George Preca received priestly ordination in 1906. He gathered around him young workers, who wanted to dedicate the lay apostolate, especially catechesis and preaching the Gospel. (German: Society of Christian Doctrine ), a society of lay catechists -: For these groups, the Society of Christian Doctrine out (Societas Christianae Doctrinae MUSEUM official name ) was established in 1907. 1910 George Preca founded a female section. The young people who devoted themselves to this apostolate, were zölibatere laity. For this reason, George Preca is considered a precursor of the lay apostolate, which then was after the Second Vatican Council, an integral part of the apostolate of the Catholic Church. George Preca is the author of more than 140 journals, some of which have been translated into English.

He was called by Pope John Paul II on 9 May 2001 in Floriana, Malta, blessed and on 3 June 2007 by Pope Benedict XVI. canonized. His feast day in the liturgy is July 26th.
