George Rigaud

George Rigaud (actually Pedro Jorge Rigato Delissetche, born August 11, 1905 in Buenos Aires, † January 17, 1984 in Leganes ) was an Argentine actor in mostly European films produced.

Life

Rigaud, son of parents who emigrated to Argentina of Italian and Basque origin, moved with his parents in 1914 to France. When French cinema since the advent of the sound film era active, he quickly found work. From his film debut in 1931 he was seen primarily as a handsome lover and charmer in romances and precious sentimental songs with historical background, rare in adventure stories. He joined in the early 30s in some French language versions earlier UFA - talkies on, was seen in 1932 as a partner of Anna Bella in René Clair's Quatorze Juillet and played in the Max Ophüls films love affair (1934 ), Divine ( 1935) and Sans lendemain ( 1939). In addition, he was comic actor in films by Marcel L' Herbier, Jean de Baroncelli, Robert Siodmak and Victor Tourjansky.

As a result of the invasion of the Wehrmacht in France more Rigaud in 1940 to Italy, where he was briefly in front of the camera. In 1941 he returned to Buenos Aires and worked there, only interrupted by a three year old, unproductive stay (1945 to 1948) in Hollywood, the next 17 years in Argentine films. After his return to Europe in 1958 he played mainly in supporting roles in Spanish and in many Italian genre films mature men mostly home-style descent whose outward, well-groomed appearance sometimes proved to be a facade. He was often seen as a general, ranchers, landowners, politicians, bank manager or a priest. In 1981, he played his last of nearly 200 film and television roles.

Rigaud died in a car accident near Madrid, after he had hit a motorcyclist. During his career, his name was usually adapted to the country of production; he is listed as Giorgio Rigato, Georges Rigaud, Rigaud Jorge and Jorge Regaud.
