George S. Messersmith

George Strausser Messersmith ( born October 3, 1883 in Fleetwood, † January 29, 1960 in Dallas ) was a United States Ambassador.

Life

The parents of George S. Messersmith were Sarah and Charles A. SC Strausser Messersmith.

Messersmith was a teacher at a public school in Delaware in 1914 and joined the Foreign Service. From 1916 to 1917, Messersmith consul on Curaçao, 1919 in Antwerp. In 1926 he was promoted to General and accredited in 1929 in Buenos Aires. From 1929 to 1933, Messersmith Consul General in Berlin, and from 1934 to 1936 in Vienna. He was appointed in 1936 as Assistant Secretary of State. In this post, he contributed significantly to a shift away from the isolationist tendency of U.S. foreign policy bei.1937 came Adam von Trott on Messersmith with William Joseph Donovan in contact.

On the initiative of the President Messersmith 's Advisory Committee on Political Refugees ( PACPR ) was established at the Conference of Evian.
