George Syrimis

George Syrimis (Greek Γιώργος Συρίμης, born 1921 in Nicosia, † January 5, 2010 ) was a Cypriot politician and entrepreneur.

Biography

The son of a family originating from Agros studied post-school economics in England and received his certification as a Certified Accountant. After his return to Cyprus in 1948 he founded his own company for Accounting, G. Syrimis & Company. His company later became part of Peat Marwick International until it became in 1987 part of KPMG.

In 1961 he was a founding member of the Cypriot Society of Certified Auditors ( Association of Certified Public Accounts of Cyprus ( ICPAC ) ) and at the same time for a few years its chairman.

On February 28, 1988, he was appointed finance minister because of his professional experience by President George Vassiliou in his cabinet and was this until the end of Vassiliou's term of office on 28 February 1993.

In addition to his professional activities, he was involved in social and socio- political activities include President of the Rotary Club of Nicosia, the oldest club on the island.
