George Washington Stephens, Jr.

George Washington Stephens, Jr. ( born August 3, 1866 in Montreal, Canada, † February 6, 1942 in Los Angeles, California ) was a Canadian politician and military officer. From March 18 1926 to 8 June 1927, he was president of the Government Commission of the Saar.

Life

George Washington Stephens was the son of Canadian politician George Stephens (1832-1904) and his first wife Elizabeth McIntosh. He attended high school in Montreal and studied at the Universities of Geneva, the University of Marburg and the University of Hannover. He then worked in the economy and including President of the "Canadian Rubber Company of Montreal ". In the meantime, Stephens served from 1898 to 1902 in the Canadian Army, most recently as a Lieutenant Colonel.

In 1905 he was like his father elected as Liberal deputy in the National Assembly of Quebec. Stephens was a deputy until 1908.

Since 1907, Stephens served as president of the Montreal Harbour Commission until 1912.

From 1923 he was a member of the Governing Commission of the Saar and later as President ( 1926-1927 ).
