George West

George West ( born February 17, 1823 in Bradninch, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland; † September 20, 1901 in Ballston Spa, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1881 and 1883, and 1885-1889 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

George West was born during the reign of George IV in Devonshire County. He attended community schools. In February 1849, he immigrated to the United States and settled in Ballston Spa in Saratoga County down. There he went to the manufacture of paper. Between 1872 and 1876 he sat in the New York State Assembly. As a delegate, he took in 1880 at the Republican National Convention in Chicago in part. He was president of the First National Bank of Ballston Spa. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1880 for the 47th Congress was West in the 20th Election District of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John H. Starin on March 4, 1881. After an unsuccessful attempt to re-election in 1882 for the 48th Congress, he retired after March 3, 1883 from the Congress. He ran in 1884 for the 49th Congress. After a successful election, he resigned on March 4, 1885 the successor of Edward Wemple. He was re-elected once. Since he gave up for reelection in 1888, he retired after March 3 in 1889 from the Congress.

After his time Congress he resumed his former business activities. He died on September 20, 1901 in Ballston Spa and was buried there in the same cemetery.
