Georges de Bièvre

Georges de Bièvre, with full name Georges François Maréchal Marquis de Bièvre, ( born November 13, 1747 in Paris, † October 24, 1789 in Triesdorf ) was a French writer.

Life

Georges de Bièvre belonged to the bodyguard of the king and was known for witty puns, comedies and novels. On November 4, 1783 his comedy Le séducteur was listed in Fontainebleau, Louis XVI. was present at the premiere. In the summer of 1789 de Bièvre traveled to England and from there, via Ostend and Spa as well as several German states into the Margraviate of Ansbach, where he probably wanted to go on to Italy. Presumably Alexander of Ansbach had met the writer at one of his winter vacations in Paris; However, it is likely that de Bièvre came at the invitation of Lady Craven after Triesdorf. This had there set up a society scholar and a lover Theatre two years earlier. Elizabeth Craven wrote in her Memoirs of the Margravine of Anspach, which came out in 1826:

" Monsieur de Bièvre [ ... ] very anxious to see my actors. I'll never forget the horrors of the Countess of Ahlefeldt and some others, who trembled at the thought of playing in front of this funny man. "

Bièvre died in Triesdorf to a smallpox infection that he had possibly suffered already in London. His grave monument in the form of a stepped pyramid, which is topped by a vase or urn, is located on the Ornbauer cemetery of St. Jacob, when he could not be buried in the Protestant Ansbach Margraviate as a Catholic. Ornbau however, belonged to the Catholic Bishopric of Eichstätt. When the Ornbauer monument was erected is unknown; its inscription, however, point out that Anna Pas de Vassal was the Contracting Authority. The ansbachische Minister Carl Friedrich Reinhard Freiherr von Gemmingen - Guttenberg may have been the builder. The text of the Latin inscription reads:

" M. Georgi. Francisci. Marechalli. March: De Bievre. Viri. Ingenio. Dignitate. Morum. Urbanitate. Insignis. Regim. Equitum. Galli Corum. Ducis. Castrorumque. Regiorum. Prefects. Ord: St. Ludovici. Equitis. Qui. Morbo. In. Itinere. Correptus. Procul. A. Patria. Occubuit. D. XXIV Octobr: A. MDCCLXXXIX. Doloris. Amicitiaeque. Monumentum. Posuit. Anna. Pas. De. Vassal. "

A very free translation created Wilhelm Pültz:

" Oblivious rests here in the sandy bottom a man at the court of the last French king held a significant position as a master of fine word game. Hikers, remember the Georges François de Bièvre! Excellent by the power of his spirit and the dignity and sweetness of his manners, colonel of a cavalry regiment, fort commander and Knight of the Order of St.. Ludwig ( Ordre royal et militaire de Saint- Louis), he died, taken on the journey of illness, far from his homeland, on 24 October 1789. This monument created pain and friendship. "
