The Georgi - Asparuchow Stadium is a football stadium in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. It is the sporting home of the football club Levski Sofia.

Name

The stadium is named after the Bulgarian footballer Georgi Asparuchow, which in a car accident died 1971. Originally it was called Gerena. This name is still widespread, especially in elderly supporters.

History

The 1960 -built stadium serves the Bulgarian first division club Levski Sofia as a venue for its home games. Since the last renovation in 1999, it offers 29,200 spectators. The playing surface is 105 to 68 meters, the strength of the flood light 1500 lux The complex as a training option offers the only artificial turf field in Bulgaria.

New

Levski Sofia is seeking to build a new stadium instead of the Georgi - Asparuchow stadium. The first phase is to be completed for the 100th anniversary of the club in 2014. In two further phases of construction, the new stadium with 28,000 seats to be built by 2017. During construction, Levski Sofia dodges in the Vasil Levski National Stadium.
