Bulgarian A Football Group

The A Grupa ( Bulgarian А Група ) is the highest professional football league in Bulgaria. They, together with the underlying settled division, the B Grupa, organized by the Bulgarian Football Federation.

History

In 1913, the first unofficial Football Championship was held, the winners Slawia Sofia was. After the First World War, the competition was held in 1921 under the name Sofia league. In 1924 was the FIFA accession of Bulgaria, and immediately a national championship was started. Until 1937 they played in the Cup mode to the one returned again 1941-1948.

The Bulgarian Cup was played from the season 1937/38, but kept for the time being only for four years. It was not until 1980, that competition was again held regularly. From 1946 to 1991, there was also a Cup of the Soviet Army.

In the summer of 2012, the Bulgarian Football Federation to reduce the A Grupa 12 teams decided. In order to achieve the desired number, four teams are relegated to the second league and only two ascend to the seasons 2012/13 and 2013/14. In the season 2012/13 the four last-place team finish the season table are fixed relegated in the 2013/14 season a Relegation Playoff played at the teams participating in the stands 8 to 14, to determine the relegated.
