Cypriot First Division

The Cypriot First Division (Greek: Παγκύπριο Πρωτάθλημα Α Κατηγορίας ) from sponsors reasons Marfin Laiki League since 2007, the highest football league in Cyprus. It will be held by the Cyprus Football Association.

Mode

The first half of the season will be played in normal league system with home and away matches between all teams. Subsequently, the top twelve teams are divided according to their placement into three groups of four teams. The two last-place teams rise directly from the Second Division.

The teams in positions one to four in the championship round to determine the participants in the qualification for the UEFA Champions League. The second and third place taking part in qualifying for the UEFA Europa League, to which also the winner of the Cup competition qualify.

During the middle group only denies placement matches, the four participants in the relegation round to determine the third relegated to the Second Division.

In the eternal table record champions APOEL Nicosia lies just ahead of Omonia Nicosia. The calculation is based on the three- point rule ( three points for a win, one point per tie), although this system was only introduced in the 1991/92 season. Colored background clubs play in the 2013/14 season in the First Division.
