APOP Kinyras FC

APOP Kinyras Peyias (Greek: Α.Π.Ο.Π - Αθλητικός Ποδοσφαιρικός Ομιλος Πέγειας Κινύρας ) is a Cypriot football club from Peyia from the Paphos district. The association was created in 2003 from a merger of the two small local clubs APOP Peyias FC and FC Cinyras Empas. The abbreviation " APOP " stands for Athlitikos Podosferikos Omilos Pegeias ( in English: Athletic Football Club Peyia) and the name " Cinyras " comes from King Cinyras, who founded the town of Paphos. In May 2009, they caused a great spectacle, after they won the Cypriot Cup and before the Favorites Omonia Nicosia, APOEL Nicosia and AEL Limassol scientists turned off. So they were the first club from Paphos, who won this trophy. In July 2009, they were also the first team from Paphos who starred in European competition. They met at that time in the third qualifying round of the Europa League on Rapid Vienna. There they lost after two games with a total of 3:4.

History

The club began its history in 2003/ 04 in the third Cypriot League, where they rose immediately to the second division in their first season. After only one year in the second division, they went for the first time in the history of the club in the First Division on. However, the team ended up in the 2005/06 season only ranked 12, lost the relegation match and got back into the second division. 2007 the team won the second division and they went back to the First Division. In the season 2010/11 they finished the season but at the bottom of the table and were relegated again. A year later came an even further down, so that the club in 2012/13 only plays mediocre.

Few gave APOP Kinyras Peyias a chance at a trophy, but they succeeded under coach Giorgos Polyviou to overwhelm some of the favorites and win the Cypriot Cup in the final against AEL Limassol. Having eliminated the teams Omonia Nicosia and APOEL Nicosia in the quarterfinals and in the semifinals, they also held the high pressure from AEL Limassol and the 0-1 and stood by two late goals by Angelos Efthymiou and Fangio Buyse, there was a remarkable victory in the GSP Stadium in Nicosia. After this success, the team's first club of Paphos, who won a major title since the establishment of the Cyprus Football Association in 1934 was.

Their first game at European level they had on 30 July 2009 against SK Rapid Wien in the third qualifying round for the UEFA Europa League. The first leg won Rapid Wien 1:2 and in the second leg shot Christopher Trimmel the decisive 2-2 in extra time and so he shot the APOP Kinyras Peyias from UEFA Europa League qualification. Previously, the APOP Kinyras Peyias had a 0-1, with goals by transforms Edgar Marcelino and Sebastián González in a 2-1 and force an extension.

Stadium

The club is in Peyia Municipal Stadium home, which has a capacity of 3,828 seats. After they had to rise in the 2005/06 season in Pafiako stadium because the stadium was not Peyia Municipal Erstligatauglich. The Peyia Municipal Stadium was rebuilt until 2007 and beyond could be played in this stadium again. The municipality of Peyia plans to increase capacity to 7,500 seats, but the exact date for the conversion is not yet known.
