Georgiy Chygayev

Heorhiy Tschyhajew (Ukrainian Георгій Чигаєв, Russian transliteration: Georgi Tschigajew; * 19 October 1983 in Odessa, Soviet Union) is a Ukrainian boxer. He was European champion in 2008 at flyweight.

Career

Georgi Tschigajew comes from the region Lviv. He started as a teenager with the boxes. He is trained by I.G. Kozak and coach Dimitro Sosnovsky.

In 2000 he took part in the Junior World Championships in Budapest, finishing there in the paper weight ( class up to 48 kg body weight (bw ) ) after a defeat against Cuban Yankiel León third place and thus won a world championship bronze medal.

In 2002, Georgi Tschigajew Ukrainian champion in paper weight. He represented his country in 2003, then in paper weight and at the World Championships in Bangkok. He had there, but still have to pay dearly because he lost his first fight there in the Round of " 32 " against Schandos Dschumabekow from Kazakhstan and landed so with all the losers this round in 17th place.

Although he was Ukrainian champion in 2004 at flyweight, he was nominated by the Ukrainian boxing association not for the Olympic Qualif. tournaments. But he was in 2005 again at the World Championships, which took place in Mianyang / China, at the start. However, he fared this flyweight such as the World Cup 2003, because he lost his first fight in the Round of 32 against the Americans Rau'shee Warren by termination in the second round, landing so again only on the 17th Place.

In 2006 Georgi Tschigajew participated in the European Championships in Plovdiv part in the paper weight. He was defeated there in the second round against David Hajrapetjan from Russia and got away with it on the 9th Place. Much better he cut off at the 2007 World Championships in Chicago. In the paper weight he gained there over Jeyhan Abijew from Azerbaijan and Lukasz Maszczyk from Poland on points and only lost in the quarterfinals against Nordine Oubaali from France. He thus reached the fifth place, which allowed him to qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing he defeated in the paper weight David Hajrapetjan by points ( 13:11), but was defeated in the second round against Yampier Hernandez from Cuba. So he left and finished ninth. After the Olympics, he then started in 2008 also at the European Championships in Liverpool. However, he did not train more in the paper weight, but started at flyweight. A measure that has paid off, as he won in Liverpool against Derenik Gishlarjan from Armenia, Francisco Torrijos from Spain, Veli Mumin from Macedonia and in the final battle against Solomon N'tuve from Sweden and thus became European Champion.
