Georgy Gause

Georgi Franzevich Gause (Russian Георгий Францевич Гаузе; * December 27, 1910 in Moscow; † 4 May 1986 as Moscow) was a Soviet microbiologist.

Life

His parents were Franz Gause, a professor of architecture at the Moscow State University, and Galina Gause. The family spent their holidays often in the Caucasus, where Georgy Gause developed his interest in biology and ecology. He studied biology at the Moscow State University and examined 1940. After graduation he was engaged in research for new antibiotics and he discovered 1944 the gramicidin S in its work with the Bacillus brevis.
