Gerald McBoing-Boing

Gerald McBoing - Boing is an American animated short film directed by Robert Cannon from the year 1950. It is based on a story by Theodor Seuss Geisel.

Action

At the age of two years the little Gerald McCloy begins to speak. Instead of words, he speaks in sound effects, however, the first utterances as boing-boing sound. Parents pick a doctor who knows but no advice. Gerald is so enrolled, and the parents hope that their child is learning to speak so. After the first day, however, Gerald expelled from school, as you, can not teach a boy who was only noise.

The sound effects that are Gerald of themselves, are growing up with the boy grew, he now sounds like a train and is even explosion noises. The other kids avoid him and his father reacts increasingly annoyed, so Gerald one night, running away from home. Before he can jump on a passing train, he is approached by an employee of the NBC Radio Network and committed to radio broadcasts as a foley artist. He is an exceptional talent, a star and his parents are finally proud of him.

Production

Gerald McBoing - Boing is based on a story by Dr. Seuss, and is figured by the speaker Marvin Miller says. The film saw its premiere on November 2, 1950.

The animation was so popular that the UPA several sequels brought out: Gerald McBoing - Boing 's Symphony (1953), How Now Boing Boing (1954) and the Oscar-nominated animated film Gerald McBoing! Boing! on Planet Moo (1956). From 1956 to 1957 also ran the The Gerald McBoing - Boing Show in U.S. television, and from 2005 to 2007, the children's series Gerald McBoing - Boing.

Awards

Gerald McBoing - Boing won the 1951 Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film ". In 1952 the film at the British Film Academy Awards was awarded a Special Award.

The National Film Preservation Board took Gerald McBoing - Boing 1995 in the National Film Registry.
