Life

Gerald Richard Barnes received on December 20, 1975 by the Archbishop of San Antonio, Francis James Furey, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

January 28, 1992, Pope John Paul II appointed Titular Bishop of Mons Faliscus and auxiliary bishop in San Bernardino. The Bishop of San Bernardino, Phillip Francis Straling, gave him on 18 March of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of San Antonio, Patrick Fernández Flores, and the Auxiliary Bishop of Galveston - Houston, Curtis John Guillory SVD.

On December 28, 1995, Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of San Bernardino.
