Gerald Scarfe

Gerald Anthony Scarfe, CBE ( born June 1, 1936 in London ) is an English cartoonist, illustrator, draftsman, creator of animated films and stage designer. He also created sculptures and designed costumes. He gained worldwide fame through the design of animated videos, the stage design and the cover and booklet design for the Pink Floyd album The Wall and to the related feature film.

Scarfe is married to the British actress Jane Asher, with whom he one daughter ( born 1974 ) and two sons (* 1981 and * 1984).

Cartoonist and illustrator

Scarfe drew and published cartoons since the 1960s, first in Punch, then for Private Eye, and later for Esquire, Time Magazine and the New Yorker.

In 1966, employed him as the Daily Mail cartoonist. In the same year he began drawing for The New York Times cover images, including the Beatles and was employed by it as a draftsman for reports. In 1967 he began working for The Sunday Times as a political cartoonist for which he then over 40 years every week delivered a caricature. For this Sunday newspaper he also produced images of war in Vietnam, Northern Ireland and the Middle East.
