Gerald Vizenor

Gerald Robert Vizenor ( born October 22, 1934 in Minneapolis, Minnesota ) is an Indian- American writer and university teacher.

Life

Vizenor is a member of the Chippewa tribe in Minnesota.

From 1978-1985 he was Professor of American Indian Studies at the University of Minnesota. Later, he accepted a professorship at the University of California, Berkeley. Today he is a professor of American Studies at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Work

In his poems (mostly in haiku form), and novels, he picks up on the understanding of nature, the myths and the everyday understanding of his tribe.
