Gerda Antti

Gerda Sofia Antti Ljungqvist ( born August 20, 1929 in Övertorneå ) is a Swedish writer.

Life

Antti grew up with four siblings in norrbottnischen Övertorneå. She debuted in 1961 with the poetry collection hardness och nu ( German: Here and now ). Since then, she has published several essays, Causerien, novellas and novels. Her works deal with everyday realistic the life of that country 's population. Describes with a simple and informal language and problems inherent conflicts within and outside the family, between city and country, new and old. In the foreground also stories about people on the margins of society. Antti, known for their humor and satire, is one of the most widely read Swedish writers. It is placed in a row with the Swedish writers Anna Maria Lenngren, Fredrika Bremer and Moa Martinson. These three writers also affirm the oppressed in an unauthorized manner heroic character of women.

Antti was also active as a local politician for the Centre Party and sat as a juror in the district court. She is Chair of the ethical Council of Immigration ( Migrationsverket ). With a newspaper article in Östgöta correspondents of 23 December 2009, in which it noted the expansion of the Council by an imam and the demand of Muslim immigrants to a change in the Swedish society as inappropriate in question, Antti sparked a national debate.

She currently lives in Stockholm and Luleå.
