Gerhard Kleppinger

Gerhard Kleppinger (* March 1, 1958 in Ober- Ramstadt ) is a German football coach and former professional football player with 287 games in the first and 254 games in the second division.

Playing career

In the club

Gerhard Kleppinger learned to play football with his hometown club, the SKG top Ramstadt. From there he moved to SV Darmstadt 98, where he remained five years, and 31 times (one goal ) in the 1st Bundesliga and 63 times ( four goals) played in the 2nd Bundesliga Süd.

From Darmstadt, he moved to Hannover 96 in the 2nd Bundesliga Nord, where he had indeed recorded 79 appearances in two years, in which he scored 16 goals, but these good record could not crowned with the rise. That's why he joined the 1982/83 season for the Bundesliga Karlsruher SC, but with which he descended the following year. Although the immediate back in the Bundesliga, he moved in 1984 to Mitaufsteiger FC Schalke 04, where he stayed for three years and played 97 times in the Bundesliga. After the descent of Schalke, he joined the major competitors Borussia Dortmund, where he remained only a year, however.

After three more years in the Bundesliga with Bayer Uerdingen, changed Kleppinger 1991 to his first professional club, SV Darmstadt 98 in the 2nd Bundesliga back. This period was marked by two descents, so that Kleppinger again found with Darmstadt in the big leagues, where he ended his career in 1996.

In the National Team

Kleppinger won with Deutsche selection bronze medal at the Summer Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988. In addition to a commitment to the German U- 21, he has no other games for the DFB disputed.

Coaching career

Even during his playing days at Darmstadt, he in 1994 was appointed player-coach and retained this position until his career end of 1996.

After that, he was coach of the Hessian division SC Viktoria Griesheim, until he as an assistant coach went to FC St. Pauli in 1997 for one year. In November 97, he was appointed there to the head coach, he retained this position 15 months until he was released on 31 January 1999.
