Gerhard Schulz

Gerhard Schulz ( born June 1, 1931 in Hartensdorf; † 2 October 2008) was a German horsemen of the GDR, in Tokyo with the overall German Olympic team won the bronze medal in the team competition at the Olympic Games in 1964.

After entry into the German People's Police he came over the Mounted Police border of the GDR to the SC Dynamo Hoppe garden.

As a show jumper he was several times in the final of the East German championship. However, his first title he won in eventing. In this discipline, he achieved his greatest successes. He was a member of the military teams in the All-German Olympic teams for the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 and 1964 in Tokyo. In 1960 he was in the individual competition on his thoroughbred mare Lilli walking with 14th place best German. In 1964, he won on his Hungarian half-bred Balca with the team bronze and was in the individual competition at the 20th place. 1963 and 1964, he won his 3rd and 4th DDR title in the Military. As Rider Andreas Pechstein, the father of the later speed skater Claudia Pechstein supported him.

After the dissolution of the riders department at SC Dynamo Hoppe garden he went into the LPG Berlin- Wartenberg, where he worked as a Brigadier and served as instructor of the section equestrian sports. Here he brought the riders Norbert Koepke and Wolfgang Bartelt GDR champion honors.
