Gerhold K. Becker

Gerhold K. Becker ( born July 22, 1943 in Bad Salzschlirf, Hesse ) is a German philosopher.

Life

Gerhold K. Becker grew up as the eldest son of the violinist Josef Becker and his wife Agnes, nee Goldbach, Bad Salzschlirf. After graduating from the grammar school in Fulda, he studied philosophy and theology at the universities of Frankfurt, Heidelberg and Munich, including Hans -Georg Gadamer, Dieter Henrich, Hermann Krings, Robert Spaemann, Michael Theunissen, Ernst Tugendhat and Heinrich Fries, Alois Grill Meier, Wolfhart Pannenberg, Karl Rahner, and Eugen Biser defiance Rendtorff, where he received his doctorate with a thesis on the thought of Ernst Troeltsch summa cum laude. 1975-1986 taught Becker as a research assistant, later Assistant Professor at the Institute for Christian Worldview and Philosophy of Religion at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich. During this time he met his future wife, the musicologist and concert pianist Siglind Bruhn know. In January 1986, Becker was appointed professor at the Department of Religion and Philosophy of the later Hong Kong Baptist University. In 1987, his wife to Hong Kong and taught six years at the University of Hong Kong. In 1991, the first center for applied ethics, which he then headed for ten years Becker Hong Kong. He was elected as a full member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in 1992. 1996 appointed him to the Hong Kong Government in the Council for Reproductive Medicine; 2000 to 2004 he headed its ethics committee. Since 2004 he teaches as " permanent guest professor" at the Graduate School of Philosophy at Assumption University in Bangkok.
