Gerlachov, Bardejov District

Gerlachov ( until 1927 slovak " Gerlachov "; Gerlachau German, Hungarian Gerla - to 1907 Gerlachó, russinisch Ґерлахів / Gerlachiw ) is a city and a municipality in eastern Slovakia, with 1034 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It belongs to Okres Bardejov ( Prešov kraj ).

Geography

Gerlachov is located in the upper valley of the Topľa in the western part of the Low Beskid Mountains, 15 kilometers west of Bardejov.

History

The town was founded in the early 14th century by a magistrate named Gerlach and appears in writing for the first time in 1344 as Gerlachwagasa. Gerlachov was owned by various landowners. 1828 had 76 houses and 588 inhabitants recorded. To date, the community has an agricultural character.
